A good post and not a bad idea to spend minutes reading. If time doesn't permit, I bring you the highlights:

Must not's for a best workout
1. No too much of Caffeine - Caffeine increases stress hormones, and too much of this may stimulate dehydration. So why take more?
2. No oversleeping or lack of sleep - An hour gap between sleep and gym is advised, for reasons. Hit out, but with 7-8 hours of sleep.
3. No Junk or Heavy foods - Leave 2 hours of break if you had a big meal. Otherwise it may cause nausea.
4. Not with Empty stomach - After all you need to lift weights and you need energy to do that.
So, stay interim, have Boiled eggs, Banana, Nuts, Oats or Skimmed Milk, 30 minutes before working out.
5. No stretching - Don't be surprised, it is said in this article that stretching cold muscles can injure it. A bit of Cardio is advised as an alternate.
6. Stressed out, then No! - Yes, the Cortisol levels are going to be higher when stressed and hence better to avoid gym. Resume after you are relaxed.
7. No Painkillers - We know its side effects. Instructor suggests a mild walk for that.
8. No Alchohol - This is for multiple reasons, so no for a best work out to follow.
9. No too much of water - A cup or two, 30 minutes before work out is advisable, nothing more.
Practically, this seems viable as good advice - Me experienced it.
